A Trip to Japan
" Tokyo was not what I imagined at all... My brother is an attorney in Tokyo. He wanted me to experience his life and laugh with him at how different and difficult it is, so he said, 'Steve, we've got to take the subway, hundreds of people cram into a tiny space, but it all works... My favorite part is how they get on... when the doors open and the train is full, they simply turn around, give a little shot with their rear, and back in.'
" He was right. It was amazingly orderly. And dead quiet. We had to use the back-in technique right away. Fortunately, my brother and I are very tall, so even though we were separated, we could still see each other's heads and shoulders above the crowd.
" The Japanese people are very polite (the bowing is hard to get used to, and people often wear surgical masks on the streets to avoid spreading their germs to others). Also, the dress code all over Tokyo was more formal than anywhere I've been... I had regular taxi drivers in hats and white gloves that would hustle out to open my door (which is interesting, because there is no tipping in Japan), and I saw men in business suits that were sweeping the trash in the streets." - Steve Sjuggerud's True Wealth, March 2007 issue, p. 1
"I'm embarrassed to admit that I personally tested.... the Egg McMuffin.... The traditional Japanese breakfast offerings of miso soup, rice, fish, and pickles didn't sound appetizing first thing in the morning." - p. 3

"The first flower to bloom in this latitude, when the winter frost loosens its grip upon the sod, is not the fragrant arbutus, nor the delicate hepatica, nor the waxen bloodroot, as the poets would have us think, but the gross, uncouth, and noisome skunk cabbage." - Alvan F. Sanborn in The Atlantic

Benjamin Franklin's epitaph
"The body of Benjamin Franklin, Printer (like the cover of an old book, its contents torn out and stripped of its lettering and gilding), lies here, food for worms; but the work shall not be lost, for it will (as he believed) appear once more in a new and more elegant edition, revised and corrected by the Author." - an epitaph composed by Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) and for himself.
