Worth Quoting: Henry Ford on Weekends
"That the Devil finds work for idle hands to do is probably true. But there is a profound difference between leisure and idleness. We must not confound leisure with shiftlessness. Our people are perfectly capable of using to good advantage the time that they have off - after work. That has already been demonstrated to us by our experiments during the last several years. We find that the men come back after a two-day holiday so fresh and keen that they are able to put their minds as well as their hands into their work."

Heart-Healthy Whole Grains
By Kelley Herring
Concerned about the health of your heart? Two and a half servings of whole grains per day may significantly reduce your risk of heart disease.
A recent study published in the journal Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases evaluated the effects of a diet rich in whole grains on the risk of heart attack and death from heart disease. Study participants who ate at least 2.5 servings of whole grains each day had a 21 percent lower risk of a cardiovascular event than those who ate 0.2 servings or less.
Make sure you read labels and look for "whole" grain ingredients. Don't be fooled by the words "wheat" or "enriched." It must be whole wheat (or another whole grain) for you to get the heart-healthy benefits

It's Good to Know: The World War I Christmas / New Year Truce
Christmas spirit should have been sorely lacking among British and German troops during World War I, sitting in cold, muddy trenches and facing each other across a deadly no man's land in Flanders. But on Christmas Eve in 1914, troops on both sides - after exchanging cautious written and shouted messages - ignored orders from their commanding generals. They laid down their weapons and gathered on the battlefield for an informal truce. They buried their dead, shared food and cognac, sang carols, and even played a soccer match. (The Germans won 3-2.)
The truce was over by New Year's Day because of threats of court martial for the troops, and the war continued for another four years.

Word to the Wise: Jollification
"Jollification" (jol-ih-fuh-KAY-shun) is another way of saying merrymaking or revelry. The word is derived from the French for "joyful."
Example (as used by Stuart Klawans in The Nation): "Some inform; some prompt the conscience; some entertain, while having more than jollification in mind."
