The International Space Station is a haven for serious research. At least it was until scientists from the
University of Tokyo announced plans to launch a three-inch
origami-crafted paper airplane from the station and let it glide to earth.
They say the
aerodynamic design and
heat-resistant covering of the
paper glider will allow it to survive the extremely high temperatures and 5,000-mile-per-hour winds it will encounter on its journey. Testing began in early January [in 2008], but
no launch date has been set.
