Burn Calories While You Sleep

By Craig Ballantyne

Flash back to the late 1990s. Dietary supplement companies started getting in trouble for falsely claiming their pills and potions could help "burn fat while you sleep." But recent research shows that there really is something that works: resistance training.

Subjects in a total-body resistance-training study performed a circuit of three exercises - the bench press, the power clean, and the squat. They did about 10 repetitions of each exercise, and went through the circuit four times. The entire workout lasted only 31 minutes.

Now here’s the bombshell. The researchers found that the subjects’ metabolism was elevated for over 36 hours after their exercise. In other words, they burned more calories and more fat for an entire day and a half after doing the circuit. That’s an incredible metabolism boost!

So if you want to burn fat around the clock - while you work and while you rest - include total-body resistance-training workouts in your fat-loss plan.

They also are more likely to smoke and do poorly in school. Easy access to TV, say the scientists, coupled with lack of parental involvement, interferes with their sleep and homework time.
